How could we offer a modular, portable and inexpensive structure to street sellers in Mexico City?

Commerce is one of the most important day-to-day activities in Mexico’s capital.

This project was focused on helping street sellers to make efficient use of available space to sell their products by taking into account three factors:

Modularity. A system consisting of just two different components, allowing efficient use of materials and easy replacement when necessary.

Portability. The stall dismounts into a package with dimensions that allow a single person to handle it, making it easy to transport.

Identity. The design creates a uniform visual appearance that gives it a recognizable identity associated with the area and the sellers.

A basic stall can start with just seven modules, allowing flexibility to create a larger stall by adding more of the basic modules.

The materials used have been chosen for light-weight, durability and ease of maintenance.

Role: Research, Conceptualization, Design lead

Team: Fernando Ventura, Mauricio Oropeza
